I think it relates to the principle of the zone which is to "consume" things that have become useless in order to make something that is new and useful: the old church has been transformed into a cement factory, the cement factory changes stone into cement that can be used to create new buildings, the sawmill changes dead trees into planks that can be used to build new things (for instance, the treehouse). But one thing that I can tell is that to become valid, the reversed-Y symbol actually consumes another symbol that is not valid.
